New Driver

In my efforts to be a better golfer I decided I need to drive the ball further. The long par 4’s and 5’s are just not reachable in regulation for me. Now that could be my age, which I’m not going to reveal, or it could be user error. In either case I wanted to try out the new drivers from Taylormade and Titleist. Our club had both companies coming to our simulator’s so I decided to go.
The rep from both companies made a lot of adjustments and I tried many combinations. I was never really thrilled with the Taylormade driver as my distance never seemed to change much. I consistently hit my driver about 170 yards, I was looking more for 200. Now I know this could be a pipe dream but after I met with the Titleist rep that dream seemed closer to reality. He had me clocking this GT2 driver closer to 185 yards consistently. After about 100 balls I was getting tired so he had me take a break and we chatted about the shafts. I use a senior shaft and he wanted me to switch to a ladies. “Why will this help me with distance,” I asked. He said the shaft is lighter which will create more clubhead speed and in turn I will hit the ball further. This driver is also more forgiving when I don’t hit it exactly right.
After the session and my new found distance, I headed home to think about

whether or not I wanted to spend over $600 on this piece of equipment. I determined that if I wanted to stay competitive, I needed to update this key piece of equipment.
A week after I received the driver the weather in Chicago was decent enough to play outside. Armed with my new driver I headed out to walk 18 holes. I don’t think this was a great test of the driver due to the 40 mph winds we had that day. I also couldn’t understand why I was hitting the driver way right every time. I usually draw the ball. I was thinking I made a huge mistake but I wanted to try it in the simulator again so all hope was not lost. I really couldn’t measure the distance due to the wind and I realized I was hitting it right because it was so lightweight. The following week I headed to the simulator and tried it out again.
What a difference! This baby goes 185-195 yards each time. Now these are ideal conditions and outside conditions are never really ideal but I was thrilled. I love my new driver. Can’t wait to try outside again, now I wait for the weather to break. Hoping this weekend! Because it’s so light I have to accentuate the follow through. One time the ball actually went 199 yards! I really reached back for that one but how fun is that? This new driver could be a real game changer for me. I highly recommend trying new drivers if you’re looking for extra distance.
Hi Pam, How far did you hit it in the video?
I tried a new Calloway driver the other day and loving it (lighter shaft too) but not seeing 200, but I agree more distance off the tee is important. (Cindi Hunter)
