My new 4-hybrid - Club or Confidence

How are you with hitting your hybrids and fairway woods? I’m not too good. I bought a 5-wood last year and I never use it. Seems I roll it 50% of the time but I need the distance it gives me. I also have a hybrid 3-wood which I also never use for the same reason. When I do hit it correctly it goes about as far as the 5-wood. So now I have two not-so-cheap clubs in my bag that I don’t use and still don’t have a club that gives me that extra distance. I took a lesson too! I still have no confidence in it. I need a club that goes about 160 yds.I call it “Time Out” and I literally put my clubs in the back of the bag and don’t use them. They are in "time out" until my confidence returns. Oh, and why is it that I hit it beautifully at the driving range? Then I get to the golf course and poof, roll it again.

Alas! Last week I tried a 4 hybrid. It’s wonderful! I used it a lot and maybe rolled it a couple times. Is it the confidence or the club? I also learned a lesson. When you’re not confident in a club, buy a used one online. This club retails for $229 and I got it on Ebay for $125. Now I won’t feel so bad if I don’t use it or lose confidence in it. I watch my friends hit these clubs all the time and they are successful, so maybe it’s in my head. I was using my 5-iron because that was the club I could hit 95% of the time but it didn’t go more than 140 yards. I guess my point is this…Is club selection, course management, or confidence the key to a good golf round? If you read this blog continuously you will know that I do have a huge mental issue on the golf course stemming from confidence. I go on Facebook all the time and see tons of tips and quick lessons about the golf swing but I never see anything about how to fix the confidence!

Thanks for reading! I love getting new clubs, especially when they work well!! But as I'm sure you know, it's not the club as much as the person swinging it😁

Thanks for the suggestion of trying a used club. I am not friends with my 3 hybrid yet but have been able to solve the others.

I often wish a wide supply of different clubs to try as a demo was available, but in reality that is impossible.

Again, thanks for sharing

Hi Cindi! Thanks for engaging!! I also think we should all get fitted for our clubs if we can't demo them. The drawback to that is you feel you have to buy it after the people spend so much time with you. In a perfect world we could try everything that fits us and then find that exact item online for a lower price but I'm sure the golf pros don't like to hear that! Then again, maybe we need a psychiatrist and not new clubs!! Ha😂
