Do You Enjoy Watching Golf on TV or Live?

Do you love watching PGA Tour golf? Do you follow the men’s tour, the women’s tour, or both? And do you have a favorite player you root for each week? I enjoy watching several players, but my absolute favorite is Justin Thomas. He’s had a tough couple of years on the course, but he’s making a strong comeback this season! I really admire his short game, and I get so excited when he’s playing well and gets featured on the broadcast—especially when it means I get to watch him on the weekend!
That said, golf can be tough for me to watch sometimes. I get nervous for the players, and if someone hits a bad shot, I can’t help but feel secondhand embarrassment. Do you watch all four days, just the weekend, or only Sunday? I record all four days because if I’m out golfing myself, I don’t want to miss anything. But it’s a delicate game of avoiding spoilers—one trip to the clubhouse, and odds are, the leaderboard is on TV! Once I know who’s winning, it takes the excitement out of it. My husband doesn’t mind—he just enjoys watching no matter what. The bonus of recording? Skipping commercials and fast-forwarding past players who take forever lining up putts (maybe I should try that… my putting could use some help!).

And can we talk about the dreaded split-screen? A commercial on one side, golf on the other—why do they do that? I fast-forward right through it (unless Justin Thomas is on, of course). They rarely show anything major during those moments anyway. Recording also lets you skip past players you’re less interested in and rewind incredible shots or those confusing rulings that even the pros struggle with. My husband and I usually golf in the early afternoon on weekends, have dinner, and then watch the tournament at our own pace—it’s the perfect way for golf addicts to spend the weekend!
What about attending tournaments in person? Do you have a favorite local event, or do you like traveling to make a mini vacation out of it? Last year, I went to the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, and I’m heading back this year! It’s such a fun event, with players competing in teams of two. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry took home the win last year, and beyond the exciting golf, the food and hospitality were top-notch. I’ll be writing a blog about it after I go in April, including restaurant, food, and hotel recommendations. I’m also hoping to score an up-close interview with someone special—stay tuned!
